# xHLDS documentation (/docs/xhlds)

xHLDS is Hostsrc's fork of [ReHLDS](https://github.com/rehlds/ReHLDS), the reverse-engineered Half-Life dedicated server engine that Counter-Strike 1.6 servers run on. It keeps what ReHLDS servers rely on:

- the plugin API (ReHLDS API 3.15), so ReAPI, ReGameDLL and Metamod modules built for ReHLDS 3.15 work as before;
- the binary names `engine_i486.so` and `hlds_linux`, and the `ReHLDS version:` line that panels and scripts read;
- ReHLDS's own cvars, commands and launch options ([ReHLDS settings](/docs/rehlds/settings)); `-pingboost 1` to `3` behave as in ReHLDS, so your start command stays the same.

The server's `version` command prints `xHLDS version:` above the `ReHLDS version:` line. Release builds are for Linux.

## In these docs [#in-these-docs]

- [Settings](/docs/xhlds/settings): every setting xHLDS adds, in plain words, with its default and when to change it.
- [Commands](/docs/xhlds/commands) and [launch options](/docs/xhlds/launch-options) xHLDS adds.
- [Console codes](/docs/xhlds/codes): what each `[XH-...]` line on the server console means, whether it is a problem, and what to do.
