# XH-T01: A player timed out while connecting (/docs/xhlds/codes/xh-t01)

**Printed:** with the engine's `<player> timed out`, [`xhlds_datagram_warnings`](/docs/xhlds/settings#xhlds_datagram_warnings) 1 or 2.

The player's game sent nothing for `sv_timeout` seconds before it entered the game: while connecting, downloading files, or reconnecting after a map change. The engine then drops them ("timed out").

**Is it a problem?** Some are normal on a public server (a game closed while connecting, a bad connection). Many of them can mean slow or failing downloads.

**What to do:** check that `sv_downloadurl` (FastDL) serves every custom file the server sends, so players download them over HTTP and not through the game connection, and that the files are no larger than needed.

## On the server [#on-the-server]

[`xhlds_explain XH-T01`](/docs/xhlds/commands#xhlds_explain) prints this explanation on the server console, also over rcon.
