We sell CS2 server hosting, with servers in Frankfurt. This page covers what a CS2 server runs: Source 2, a Steam login token, sub-tick, Workshop maps and plugin frameworks.
Up to 64 slots. On stock maps, casual fits about 30 players and competitive 10 per side; deathmatch, community maps or a spawn plugin let you use more.

Every plan shares its node's CPU. When servers want the same CPU thread at the same moment, its time is split by weight: 1 for Essential, 2 for Performance and 4 for Premium.
Essential
Standard priority
Weight 1
For scrims, practice and smaller communities watching the budget.
Performance
High priority
Weight 2
For public, community and modded servers.
Premium
Highest priority
Weight 4
For match servers and plugin-dense configurations.
When the node is quiet, every server uses what it needs, up to 2 CPU threads.
The same binary runs the game client, so a server starts with -dedicated, as in Valve's example cs2 -dedicated +map de_dust2. Without it, the game opens instead.
Steam's rules say not to give tokens to third parties. Tokens left unused for a long time expire and can be regenerated, and a Steam Support password reset regenerates all of them.
Valve built CS2 around sub-tick, so this page names no tick rate.
Sub-tick
Valve says: "Tick rate no longer matters for moving, shooting, or throwing." The server knows the exact moment a move starts, a shot is fired or a grenade is thrown.
A June 2023 Valve note says bunny hopping "should now closely match CS:GO running at 128 tick". That describes how movement feels, not a 128-tick server.
Metamod:Source loads through a line added to csgo/gameinfo.gi. AlliedModders says to redo that edit whenever an update changes the file, and Valve changes can break Metamod between releases.
CS2 ships Competitive, Casual, Wingman, Deathmatch, Arms Race, Retakes and Custom, chosen with launch settings such as `game_type` and `game_mode`. Community servers add their own through plugins and Workshop maps, for example:

Counter-Strike 2 server questions
Yes. The plans and their monthly prices are on this page. Our CS2 servers run in Frankfurt.
From €9.99/month for 14 players on Essential, up to €46.99/month for 64 players on Premium. Final price, no VAT added.
No. A paid test costs €2.99 for 3 days or €4.99 for 7 days, at 14 players.
In Frankfurt, on every CS2 plan. The ping test measures your ping to Frankfurt from your browser.
Yes. DDoS filtering is included on every CS2 plan and reduces the impact of attacks. The hardware page says who filters traffic in Frankfurt.
Running the server
Yes, for a server other players can join. Create a Game Server Login Token on Steam's game server account page (external site, opens in a new tab) with 730 as the game ID, then start the server with +sv_setsteamaccount and the token. If the server logs "Could not establish connection to Steam servers" with result 18 or 106, regenerate or replace the token.
Not as a setting Valve documents. Valve built CS2 around sub-tick (external site, opens in a new tab) and says "Tick rate no longer matters for moving, shooting, or throwing." The server records the exact moment of each move, shot and grenade throw. A June 2023 Valve note compares bunny hopping with CS:GO at 128 tick, which is about how movement feels, not a 128-tick server.
Yes. Valve opened the Steam Workshop to community servers on 2 November 2023, and since June 2024 a server loads the latest Workshop version of a community map. Players download the maps from the Workshop: Valve's CS2 command list (October 2023) has no sv_downloadurl, so there is no FastDL.
Yes. Retakes is one of Valve's own CS2 modes again since October 2025, and community servers also run their own retakes plugins. Surf servers are community builds: Workshop surf maps with plugins on a framework such as CounterStrikeSharp or SwiftlyS2.
Our plans have 14, 24, 32, 48 or 64 slots, and your server starts with -maxplayers set to your plan's number. Up to 64 slots. On stock maps, casual fits about 30 players and competitive 10 per side; deathmatch, community maps or a spawn plugin let you use more.
CS2 for most communities: it is the current game and Valve still updates it. CS:GO is a frozen legacy build, and our CS:GO (legacy) page covers when it still matters.
Plugins, updates and VAC
No. SourceMod's stable 1.12 release has no CS2 build, so SourceMod plugins written for CS:S or CS:GO don't load. CS2 plugins run on CounterStrikeSharp, which loads through Metamod:Source 2.0, or on SwiftlyS2, which has its own loader.
They can stop working until they are updated. Valve patches CS2 often, and Metamod:Source loads through an edit to csgo/gameinfo.gi that AlliedModders says to redo whenever an update changes that file.
Yes, by default. VAC is Valve's anti-cheat and checks players' computers when they join a VAC-secured server; -insecure turns it off. Only Valve issues VAC bans, while server admins can ban players from their own server.
