CS 1.6 boosting services: what they sell and what to check first

A CS 1.6 boost is a paid place in a server list that non-Steam players see. What 8 services sell and charge as of 20 October 2026, and what to ask before you pay.

A CS 1.6 boost is a paid place in a server list. Most boost sellers run their own master server, the list a CS 1.6 game asks for when a player opens the server browser. Only the non-Steam builds of CS 1.6 that the seller or a partner gives out ask that master server, so the players a boost reaches use those builds.

What you pay for is a position: near the top of the Internet tab, a place in the players' Favorites, or a link in the game menu. Sellers price it per period (a day, a week, 30 days), per round at the top of the list, or per install, which counts new copies of their game that get your server in Favorites or the game menu. A few say they send players to servers in turn instead of showing them a list.

Website listings are a separate thing. Some sites sell a higher place on a server list on their website, and don't claim a place in the game.

Warning

GameTracker.com bans boosted servers for good. Its rules say "Server boosting, redirects, and duplicate servers will lead to a permanent ban", and a ban on a whole IP "is permanent. You will have to request a new IP" (GameTracker.com admin post (external site, opens in a new tab)). Decide whether your server's GameTracker.com page matters to you before you buy.

Before you start

  • Your server's full address, IP and port. Sellers list a server by its address, so a listing stops working if the address changes.
  • A server that lets non-Steam players in. A master-server boost brings players on non-Steam builds. Steam CS 1.6 lists servers from Valve's own master server, not a seller's.
  • A budget for the whole period. Most packages run for a set number of days, and several sellers say they don't refund one once it is live.

On Hostsrc

The base pack accepts Steam and non-Steam clients, and our firewalls let non-Steam players through.

Steps

  1. Step 1: Find out exactly what they sell

Ask which list your server goes into: the seller's master server, players' Favorites, the game menu, or a list on their website. Ask where in that list it sits and for how long.

Save a copy of the seller's own description of the package. It is the only record of what you paid for.

  2. Step 2: Check whether it is priced per install or per period

A period price runs for a set number of days, whatever happens in that time. A per-install price counts copies of the seller's game that get your server in Favorites or the game menu. An install is a copy of the game, not a player who joins.

Ask what happens when the period or the installs run out, and whether the place renews on its own.

  3. Step 3: Ask whether they redirect or assign players

Ask whether they redirect, distribute or assign players to servers. A redirect sends a player to your server without them choosing it. GameTracker.com names redirects in the same rule as boosting.

  4. Step 4: Ask whether players need the seller's own game

Master-server boosts only reach players who use the seller's builds of CS 1.6. Ask which builds those are and where players get them. Don't download or run one yourself to check.

  5. Step 5: Ask whether they run bots or fake players

Ask whether any player they send is a bot, a fake player or a spectator that never plays. GameTracker.com lists "More than 3 fake players or undetected bots" as a reason to derank or ban a server (GameTracker.com admin post (external site, opens in a new tab)).

  6. Step 6: Read their rules and refund terms

Several sellers set rules for the servers they list. Some ban plugins that change players' binds, names or game menu, and redirect plugins. Check your plugins against those rules before you pay.

Read the refund terms too. Of the services in the table below, fullserver.org says "We do not offer refunds for the services already active", cs-boost.lt says "No refunds will be provided once the listing is live", promocs.com says "all payments are final", and royalservers.eu says "nu facem refund !" (no refunds). unikov.net says unused funds can be refunded within 5 business days, minus fees and bonuses. gametracker.rs says boost credits are "generally non-refundable except where required by law or at our discretion".

How to compare offers

Put every offer on the same footing before you compare prices.

  • Per period. Divide the price by the days it covers, and add any bonus days. cs-boost.lt and promocs.com add free days to their longer periods.
  • Per install. unikov.net sells Favorites and game menu places in batches from 1,000 installs. Each install is a new copy of the seller's game with your server added. Ask how long a batch takes to deliver.
  • Rounds. A round is a turn at the top of the seller's list. fullserver.org describes Turbo-Boost as "Servers rotated from first place to lower", and unikov.net sells Boost by the round. Ask how long a round lasts.
  • Rotation and distribution. Some services sell a turn in a rotation instead of a place in a list. gamespy.ro says "Each new player goes to the server with the most free slots that has not received a connection in the current cycle". Ask how a player ends up on your server, and whether they chose it.
  • VIP and other tiers. These are bands of the list, not the top. fullserver.org sells Gold VIP as "third list in Master Server", VIP Place as "lowest list in Master Server" and Lite VIP as "appears in Master Server occasionally". unikov.net's VIP "appears in the search immediately after servers with the BOOST service".
  • Auctions. unikov.net sells Be First + GM by auction, "from 50 EUR", and fullserver.org sells Maximum by auction. What you pay depends on the other bids.
  • Order by ping. cs-boost.lt and set-master.ro order their list by each player's ping, so your place depends on where the player is.
  • Where the players are. Sellers rarely say. set-master.ro says "Peste 90% dintre jucători sunt români, 10% străini și 0% boți" (over 90% Romanian, 10% foreign and 0% bots). Players far from your server's location get a higher ping.

What to avoid

  • Paying before you know how players arrive. Check how a service sends players to your server before you pay. GameTracker.com names redirects in its permanent ban rule.
  • Bots and fake players. That includes spectators that never play and padded player counts. GameTracker.com deranks or bans servers with "More than 3 fake players or undetected bots".
  • Buying votes or rewarding them. If you want a vote ranking that shows what players think, don't buy votes or give rewards for them. GameTracker.com also lists "Use of player/rank 'boosting' services" as a reason to derank.
  • Plugins that change players' game. Forced binds, renamed players, a changed game menu or a swapped server list change files on the player's computer, and the changes stay after they leave. Several sellers' own rules ban these plugins.
  • Unexpected downloads. If a page starts downloading a game or an installer on its own, close the page and don't run the file.
  • An IP with a past. If you take over a server or an address, check its GameTracker.com page first. A whole-IP ban there is permanent.

Troubleshooting

Will GameTracker.com ban my server if I buy a boost?

It can. GameTracker.com's rule says "Server boosting, redirects, and duplicate servers will lead to a permanent ban", and a whole-IP ban "is permanent. You will have to request a new IP". It also deranks servers for "Use of player/rank 'boosting' services".

Do Steam players see a boosted server?

Not through a seller's master server. Steam CS 1.6 lists servers from Valve's master server, and a seller's master server is only read by its own non-Steam builds. Some services sell Steam players separately: gamespy.ro has a "JUCATORI STEAM ON+MASTERSERVER" package. Ask how those players reach your server. A website listing is visible to anyone who opens that website.

Can non-Steam players join my Hostsrc server?

Yes. The base pack accepts Steam and non-Steam clients, and our firewalls let non-Steam players through.

The players from a boost have a high ping

They are probably far from your server. Ask the seller where its players are before you renew. set-master.ro, for example, says over 90% of its players are Romanian.

The boost ended and the server is quiet again

A boost is a place in a list for as long as you pay. When the period, rounds or installs run out, the place goes to another server. Check the seller's terms for what renews and what doesn't.
